Ghost Light Theatre

Ghost Light Theatre, located in Nelson CBD, is a not-for-profit 80-seat black box theatre that aims to provide a safe, hallowed, and mysterious space for performers and audiences. The theatre takes its name from the traditional "ghost light" left on stage when a theatre is unoccupied, symbolizing a light in the darkness of extremism and intolerance. The space is available for hire and will also hold its own events, with a focus on embracing the community and showcasing local and national works that push boundaries. Created by actress and arts manager, Laura Irish, and journalist, Charles Anderson, Ghost Light Theatre aims to contribute to Nelson's identity as the "arts capital of New Zealand" by providing an affordable and welcoming space for the performing arts.
