Eggsentric Cafe and Restaurant is a family-owned establishment located in Flaxmill Bay, next to Cooks Beach on the Coromandel. The restaurant was founded in 1998 by Dave Fowell, who started a free-range egg farm and later opened the cafe to add value to the eggs. The restaurant is now run by Dave's son, Sam, and his wife, Alesha, who continue to uphold the tradition of using fresh, local seafood and produce in their dishes. Eggsentric has been featured on national television and in various publications, and has been voted the best BYO restaurant on the Coromandel by the NZ Wine Society. The restaurant is closed for winter from May to October.
